HY300 Projector Remote: Replacements, Pairing and Lost-Remote Fixes

The air-mouse voice remote comes with Magcubic's HY300 Pro+, HY300 Ultra and HY310, and with a few other brands' upper models such as Xorytin's HY300 Ultra. It moves an on-screen pointer when you wave it, takes voice search from a microphone key, and has to pair before voice and pointer work.

• Microphone key on the remote: it was a voice remote.
• A cursor moved when you waved it: an air-mouse remote, pair the replacement.
• Plain keys, a small red light that blinks on each press: infrared, no pairing at all.
• F+ and F− focus keys: an electric-focus projector; the replacement must carry them too.

Most plain HY300 and HY300 Pro projectors, from Magcubic's original to the many other brands' Pros, used an infrared remote. That is good news for a replacement, because infrared remotes are cheap and work the moment the batteries go in.

1. Turn the projector over and note the brand and full model: HY300, HY300 Pro, Pro+ or Ultra.
2. Check whether the old remote was infrared or voice: a microphone key or a moving pointer means voice.
3. Find that exact brand and model in the replacement's compatibility list.
4. Order two AAA batteries with it; none of the common replacements include them.

Some lists are stricter than you would expect. The popular PZL infrared remote names the Magcubic HY300 Pro and a dozen other brands' Pros, then states that it does not work with the original Magcubic HY300. The RUOYINKE voice remote goes the other way: it fits Magcubic's HY300 Pro+, HY300 Ultra and HY310 and rules out other brands' Pro+ models by name.

• Magcubic HY300 Pro: the PZL infrared remote.
• Magcubic HY300 (original): the RUOYINKE infrared remote, which lists it.
• Magcubic Pro+ or Ultra: the RUOYINKE or PZL voice remote.
• DreamFair or Salange HY300 Ultra: the Ultra remotes that name those brands.

Remotes sold as universal for the HY300 are universal only across the models on their own list, so the list is the part to trust. Other ready-made accessories are grouped in the HY300 accessories guide.

1. Fit two fresh 1.5V AAA batteries and switch the projector on to its home screen.
2. Sit within a couple of metres and point the remote at the projector.
3. Press and hold the Left and Right keys together for more than 3 seconds.
4. The indicator starts flashing quickly: the remote is in pairing mode for 60 seconds.
5. When the light stays on for about 2 seconds and then stops flashing, pairing has worked.

If the red light simply goes out after a minute, the window closed without a pair. Move closer, restart the projector and try again.

• Keys work, voice does not: the buttons use infrared, the microphone needs the pairing, so repeat the steps.
• Pointer drifts: set the remote flat on a table for a few seconds, then have another go.
• Paired to the wrong box: in a house with two HY300s, switch the other one off while you pair.

1. Swap the batteries for fresh 1.5V AAA alkalines, and take them out when the remote sits unused for weeks, as the remote makers advise.
2. Aim at the right spot. Amovfilm tells owners to point its infrared remote at the back of the projector and toward the lens.
3. Test the infrared LED with a phone camera: press a key and watch the screen for a faint flash. Front cameras show it more often than rear ones.
4. Re-pair a voice remote by holding Left and Right together for 3 seconds.
5. Restart the projector by unplugging it for ten seconds.

Bright sunlight or a strong lamp shining on the projector can swamp an infrared signal, so draw the curtain and try again before blaming the remote.

• No light, no flash: the remote or its batteries.
• Flash, no response: the projector's receiver, its angle, or a frozen system.
• Only some keys fail: a worn contact, time for a replacement.

• USB mouse: plug a wired mouse, or the dongle of a wireless one, into the projector's USB port; a pointer appears and clicks work like the OK key. Amovfilm names this as a way to run its HY300.
• Phone as remote: on models that support it, a remote app on the same Wi-Fi does the job; setup is in the remote app guide.
• USB keyboard: arrow keys and Enter move through menus, and typing a password gets far quicker.

Bluetooth is less reliable here. Several HY300 makers say their Bluetooth is for speakers and headphones only, so a Bluetooth mouse or keyboard may refuse to pair.

Then order the replacement that matches your model. A two-pack of the HY300 Pro infrared remote suits a family where one always disappears, and one version comes with a small wall bracket so the remote has a home beside the bed.

A remote that keeps wandering off is worth a home of its own. The glow-in-the-dark silicone sleeve makes it easy to spot on a dark duvet, and a wall bracket beside the bed or sofa gives it a fixed place between films.
