The HY300 takes orders from more than its little black remote: a phone that casts, a phone with an infrared blaster, and a plain USB mouse. Each one suits a different model and a different kind of evening.
Brought up to date September 2026No phone app talks to every HY300 the way the Google TV app talks to a Google TV. An Android phone with an IR blaster can stand in for the remote, an iPhone drives playback through AirPlay, and a USB mouse in the projector's USB port reaches every menu with no remote at all.
Every HY300 leaves the box with an infrared remote or, on the Pro+ and Ultra, an air-mouse remote with a voice button. Before hunting for a phone app, remember that the projector also takes orders from a plain USB mouse. Between those three, almost every movie-night hiccup has an answer.
The infrared remote is the simple one. It needs a clear path to the projector, so a duvet, a cushion or a body swivelled towards the ceiling can block it. Replacement IR remotes for the HY300 Pro family need no pairing: batteries in, and they work.
Mouse mode matters more than people expect. Many apps on the HY300 are phone versions, built for fingers, and the arrow keys cannot reach every button inside them. Press the mouse key and a pointer appears; press it again to return to arrow-key control.

An iPhone has no infrared transmitter, so no iPhone app can send the signal the HY300's little remote sends. Most HY300s run a projector build of Android rather than certified Google TV, so the remote inside the Google TV app has nothing to pair with either. What the iPhone does well is AirPlay.
Magcubic's route runs through the ScreenCast app on the projector. Once it is open, the projector appears in the iPhone's Screen Mirroring menu, and the phone becomes the play button, the scrubber and the volume for whatever it sends.
Expect a black screen from Netflix, Prime Video, Hulu and other paid services. Their copy protection (HDCP) blocks mirroring, and Magcubic says so in its own setup notes. Play those from the projector's built-in apps or from a streaming stick in the HDMI port, and keep AirPlay for photos, holiday clips and free video.

Some Android phones still carry an infrared blaster on the top edge, a habit of many Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO models. With a universal remote app, that tiny window sends the same kind of signal as the HY300's remote. It is the closest thing to a true HY300 projector remote app.
HY300 remotes are generic infrared units, so work through the app's projector profiles one at a time until the power key or the arrows respond. Test from a metre or two away, aimed at the projector body rather than the wall. Once a profile moves the menu, save it with a clear name.
The HY300's Bluetooth is mostly there for sound going out: a speaker for the garden, headphones for a late film while the house sleeps. Salange states that Bluetooth on its HY300 Pro+ carries audio only, not video, which is why a phone never shows up as a picture source over Bluetooth.

Start the showThe quickest way to use an HY300 projector without a remote is a USB mouse. Plug it into the USB port, and a pointer appears on the wall; a left click selects and, as on most Android devices, a right click steps back. A USB keyboard does the same job with the arrow keys and Enter.
Click through to the network settings with the mouse and pick your router. Typing a password on the on-screen keyboard with a mouse is slow but steady; a real keyboard makes it painless.
The same mouse gets you there. On Magcubic models the path is Settings, Other Settings, Restore Factory Settings; Alwtniet names the last step Factory Reset Settings. A reset erases apps, accounts and saved Wi-Fi, so it comes last, not first.

If the remote keeps disappearing, the model you choose decides how painful that is. Magcubic's HY300 Pro+ and HY300 Ultra ship with the air-mouse voice remote, which handles phone-style apps without a mouse and swaps typing for speech. The plain HY300 Pro and the original HY300 rely on a simple IR remote.
Spare remotes are cheap and plentiful, but they are not interchangeable. The popular IR spare for the HY300 Pro family states that it does not fit Magcubic's original HY300, and the voice spare for the Pro+ names the exact projectors it works with. Match the model name, not the shape of the plastic.

No HY300 maker lists a phone remote app among the projector's features. Control comes from the supplied remote, a USB mouse, or casting from the phone through ScreenCast and AirPlay.
